4 life-changing reasons to lose weight

Here, we share 4 life-changing reasons to lose weight that you probably haven’t considered before.

Losing weight is always seen as a drop in numbers on the scales or in a dress size, but have you ever considered the true impact of weight loss? What difference it will make to your life? Even a small reduction in weight can have a positive change in your day to day routine. Rather than focus on the usual incentives such as a reduction in heart disease or a reduced chance of Type 2 diabetes (because let’s face it although we know being overweight increases the likelihood of developing these conditions, bizarrely they seem so remote and detached from us… until they actually occur), at New You we would like to draw your attention to more urgent, more evidence-based, more quality-of-life focused reasons.

1. Your Knees Will Thank You

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease, in which we
lose cartilage and gradually destroy the bones of our joints. Imagine two stones
grinding together and you get the idea of how fun that is.

  • Your joints hurt, so you move less.
  • Moving less means your joints don’t get loaded.
  • Less joint loading means muscle weakness.
  • Muscle weakness means force doesn’t get cushioned correctly.
  • Less cushion means the condition worsens.
  • More osteoarthritis means more pain.

The point? Being overweight makes it much more likely that
you’ll get osteoarthritis.

In one study comparing the heaviest patients to the lightest, the chance of being diagnosed with osteoarthritis in one knee was more than 6 times in the heavier group. For both knees it was almost 18 times.

At New You, our customers notice reduced joint pain very quickly while following our Total Food Replacement Plan. Our TFR plan helps you easily create a nutritionally balanced, calorie deficit which promotes fast and effective weight loss. The average weight loss for customers is one stone a month so pressure on joints is reduced very quickly. Our customers find movement also improves, which disrupts the vicious circle of osteoarthritis.

2. You’ll Get A Good Night’s Sleep

When you are carrying extra weight, your sleep is affected.
Whether that is through snoring, waking up in pain or sleep apnoea, it all adds
up to a poor night’s sleep. Sleep is a major regulator of our metabolism. If
our sleep is bad, so is our metabolic health.

This means things like elevated inflammation, rapid cell
aging and oxidation, and hormonal disruption (and, yes, higher risk for all
kinds of nasty chronic diseases in the long term).

By creating a calorie deficit using the New You Plan, our customers lose weight and find that they can sleep better. Not only does this help regulate metabolism, hormone systems, and more. It helps you feel, think and live better right away.

3. Your Immune System Will Work Properly Again

Like all things, balance is important. If we have a healthy amount of fat, our hormones and cell signals work properly. If we have too much, things go wrong. For example, with too much body fat our immune systems get off kilter. Increased BMI and more body fat are associated with greater risk for several kinds of infections including:

  • Gum infections
  • Nose and sinus infections,
  • Stomach infections

Why? Too much adipose (fat) tissue can release large amounts of immune chemicals. Over time, this chronic high exposure can interfere with the body’s ability to spot and stop actual outside infections. Losing body fat can mean a healthier, more responsive, more robust immune system. And that means fewer colds, fewer infections, and a healthier daily life.

4. You’ll Survive Surgery

Surgery is a risky business when you are overweight. There
is a higher risk of infection and reaction to anaesthetic. This is a double
whammy because when you struggle with carrying extra weight you are more likely
to have other health issues that may require surgery. So obese people may need
surgery… but not be able to get it, or not recover as well when they do. Every
surgery patient wants a safe and speedy recovery. Having a healthy range of
body fat makes that happy outcomes much more likely.

So, while you might be interested in losing weight for the ‘OMG you got hot’ comments (because let’s face it – that’s always nice to hear), by following the New You plan you will feel so much better too. Less pain, better sleep and a stronger immune system for starters.

We have over 40 different meals to choose from and a fantastic online community who will support you every step of the way. If you are weary of being tired or sick of feeling ill, we have the perfect prescription for you. Click here for more information.

What Is Intuitive Eating?

What is intuitive eating? Intuitive eating is a way of living, eating, and connecting with your body for your unique health.

What Is Intuitive Eating?

Intuitive eating has roots in evidence-based research regarding the health benefits associated with intuitive eating. Intuitive eating is a framework for long-term health that uses behavior change, psychology, self-awareness, and intuition practices instead of restrictive diet plans or food rules to follow.

Happily, we’re seeing intuitive eating become more mainstream conversation as the rise of non-diet culture gains momentum. At Nutrition Stripped, intuitive and mindful living and eating is a cornerstone of our coaching process with clients and has been part of our philosophy as a company since day one.

Intuitive eating is a way of eating and living that’s unique to you — at its core, it’s a way of connecting with your unique food and body needs.

History

The term intuitive eating was founded in 1995 by two Registered Dietitians by the name of Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch — these two dietitians created a framework involving 10 principles for practicing intuitive eating.

The intuitive eating movement started prior to this coined terminology with practitioners such as psychotherapist Susie Orbach in 1978 with her work with the psychology of dieting in women, author Geneen Roth in the early 1980s speaking to emotional eating, and Registered Dietitian Thelma Wayler in 1973 started a weight management program that focuses on emotional eating and lifestyle changes for long-term health.

With the history dating back as early

Bedtime May be a Factor in Overall Wellness

You’ve heard it plenty of times before: Adults should spend at least seven to nine hours sleeping each night, per the recommendation of the National Sleep Foundation. But does it matter when you finally call it a day and decide to head to bed? As long as you’re getting a full night’s sleep, who cares what time you choose to hit the hay, right? Not necessarily, according to research. NBC News and ABC News analyzed two different studies that showed a correlation between bedtime, heart health and mood swings.

How a Late Bedtime May Affect Your Heart
The study, presented at the American College of Cardiology’s 58th annual Scientific Session in Orlando, analyzed men who went to sleep before midnight, in comparison to those who laid down to rest after 12 a.m. These men were younger than 61 and shared information on blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, BMI and waist circumference. They also had their arteries examined and completed a questionnaire that went over sleep patterns, such as duration and bedtime.

The men who went to bed after midnight showed more signs of arterial stiffening, which is an early symptom of heart disease – even if they slept the recommended seven to nine hours.

Dr. Daniel Jones, former president of the American Heart Association, told ABC News that while these individuals were prioritizing duration of sleep, their average bedtime was the poor sleeping habit that could be to blame.

“There are a lot of potential reasons for this causal link, [such

Kurbo: Are We Setting Up A New Generation Of Kids To Have The Same Self-Image Issues As Us?

As a Registered Dietitian (RD), I’ve spent most of my career coaching clients on how to build a healthy relationship with food; inspiring flexibility and balance in eating, practicing mindfulness, and finding joy and peace with food. In order for my clients to develop healthy habits, we explore good health and quality of life, through a holistic lens – beyond a number on the scale.

When I heard WW (the rebranded Weight Watchers) launched a new app for kids, called Kurbo, I wondered – could we be setting up a new generation of kids to have the same self-image issues that most of us are still trying to free ourselves from?

Granted: the scientific community is working to develop programs to keep our children healthy. But it would be naive and irresponsible to overlook the risks associated with an app that requires kids – as young as 8 – to track everything they eat, and self-report their weight and behaviors.

According to WW Chief Scientific Officer, Gary Foster, the program is intended to be, “part of the solution to address the prevalent public health problem of childhood obesity

The reality is, not all experts agree.

“Children are not ‘little adults’ and the approaches that may ‘work’ for adults, such as weight-loss goals, are not appropriate for children most of the time,” Natalie Muth, a pediatrician and spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics, told The Atlantic last month. “Interventions that focus on weight as the main target can trigger disordered eating

Why You Need To Stop Associating Your Worth With Your Weight

In a world where we’re constantly exposed to everyone else’s successes (physical, professional and sentimental) on social media, it’s easy to feel like we’re falling short on something, like we’re not good enough. And when you associate your worth with your weight those feelings of low self-esteem are magnified even further.

To get over this feeling, you might go to the gym more or start a weight loss plan, and as a result you get fitter and healthier but that nagging feeling still remains.

So why do so many of us feel like we’re not good enough? And how do we deal with this familiar feeling?

The feeling of not being ‘good enough’ may have started in childhood with a demanding parent or teacher: ‘Look how polite your friend Sam is, why can’t you be more like him?’ ‘70% on your test? What did your classmates get?’

It likely became exacerbated as we grew up, with social media exposing us day after day to everyone’s amazing (filtered) life and everyone around us seemingly being incredibly successful, cool and having their lives completely figured out…who ARE these people?

Regardless of which external trigger caused the feeling the first time, our internal dialogue has been keeping it alive ever since. Sometimes, we get good feedback or recognition for something we’ve done, and the feeling subsides temporarily – only to come back in full force once something else happens which seems to be the ultimate proof: you’re not good enough.

What Is PMDD And Can Diet Help?

We’ve all heard of PMS, but what about PMDD? The weeks leading up to your period can be particularly challenging.

Changes in mood, energy and food preferences can make day-to-day activities feel much harder than usual. But how do we know what’s considered “normal” and when to seek support from a health practitioner?

Today we’re shedding a light on PMDD — what it is, when to ask for help and how your diet can impact your symptoms. If you or someone you know is experiencing particularly difficult period symptoms or has been diagnosed with PMDD, keep reading to find out exactly what is going on and what you should do.

PMDD

When we really strip it down, PMDD is essentially characterized by an exceptionally uncomfortable, frustrating week leading up to your period. The symptoms may also last a few days into your period as well. After hearing this, you may think to yourself — oh, that’s me! I get intense cramps, mood swings and some pretty crazy cravings the weeks prior to my period, that must mean I have PMDD? Not exactly.

PMDD is much more severe than PMS, plus it isn’t nearly as common. About 20-40% of women experience typical PMS symptoms ranging from mild to severe. On the other hand, only 3-8% of women experience symptoms so severe that they prevent them from functioning regularly in their day-to-day lives – this is PMDD (1).

What is PMDD?

PMDD stands for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. This disorder causes severe, debilitating

3 Easy Steps To Create Limitless Self-Belief

They say you have to see it to believe it but, when it comes to your New You journey sometimes, we have to believe it first in order to see the results.

When you decided to commit to be a healthier, happy version of you and invested in yourself by starting your New You journey, you might have made a promise to yourself that this was it. This is the last time you will need to lose weight.  And you meant it.  You started strong. Then, somehow along the way your motivation dipped, you struggled to keep your promise to yourself or you came off plan entirely.

It’s often because doubt creeps in. You think, ‘This isn’t working.’ You tell yourself the promises you made are too difficult to keep. Here at New You we have a new trick up our sleeves for these creeping self-doubts.

This Is Where The Magic Happens

There’s more neural activity in the brain when it encounters negative stimuli – we’re inclined towards a ‘negative bias’. Why? It’s a survival technique; we’re always looking for the bear about to attack. Even though it’s likely that today there are no bears waiting to pounce, the nervous system has been evolving for 600 million years and we are genetically trained to look for the negatives in life to keep us safe. But from what? Failure? Change? Whenever you decide to commit to become a healthier and happier a tiny part of your mind will tell you

Millennial Menu: 15 Easy and Healthy Recipes You Wish You Had Known About Sooner

This post was sponsored by The Regional Municipality of York (York Region). As always, all opinions are my own.

Explore 15 of my favorite easy and healthy recipes – the entire family will love. Trust me, these fresh recipe ideas you’ll make on repeat. Whether you’re a newbie still finding your way in the kitchen, a seasoned home chef or a passionate foodie – there’s a recipe for everyone!

Buddha bowls, matcha pancakes, green smoothies, and avocado, well everything: if it’s not been on your plate, you’ve seen a snap of it on Instagram. One look at the #foodie will bear this out.

One can’t refute that millennials are shaking up the food scene – perhaps even leading the change in the food revolution. And, it’s no secret, millennials are massive foodies, taking a big bite out of Canada’s foodservice sector. According to Restaurants Canada, millennials are one of the factors driving foodservice sales; which have soared to $84 billion, in 2017. It’s estimated that by 2022, combined commercial and non-commercial foodservice sales will exceed $100 billion.

From fast casual to farm-to-table, as a millennial mompreneur, I place tremendous value on knowing where our food comes from; how it’s grown and produced. Of course, I feel deeply committed to supporting a sustainable food system – one that supports my family’s health, as well as the health of the planet

As much as I adore cauliflower rice, the reality is, during the weekday chaos, there’s serious demand to serve up

Unfortunate Facts About the Standard American Diet

The Standard American Diet, also referred to as SAD – talk about fitting – is unfortunately made up of the most common eating habits in the country. Instead of opting for the healthy, organic choices provided by God himself, those following SAD depend on unnatural, unhealthy processed options made with harmful ingredients that deteriorate overall health and well-being. These same individuals are not only relying on fast food for fuel, but they’re also eating substantial portion sizes that increase their risk for developing chronic conditions, wrecking their immune systems and gaining unnecessary weight.

The Truth About SAD
The Standard American Diet is comprised of a variety of elements that make it so dangerous. What’s worse, is most people following these eating habits are hurting their bodies three or more times a day, per each meal they consume. Here’s what makes the SAD so harmful:

It’s high in animal fats. It’s high in saturated, hydrogenated and trans fats. It’s high in processed ingredients. It’s low in fiber. It’s low in complex carbohydrates. It’s low in natural, plant-based choices.

With these elements, Americans can’t expected to get any of the vitamins, minerals and necessary nutrients they need to live long, healthy lives.

The Standard American Diet leads to obesity.

Conditions Acquired From Following SAD
Think about America’s current health care system. So much money is spent on cancer research, treating patients and giving them prescribed medications to get better, while these sick individuals are continuing to ruin their bodies with

The Real Reason You Aren’t Losing Weight, By a Secret Slimmer

No one knows our plan quite like our Secret Slimmers! Here, one customer shares why neglecting self care could be the real reason why you aren’t losing weight, and shares her 4 top tips to give your self-care routine a boost.

Lists. They are great, aren’t they? Currently I have around 6 lists on repeat in my head. I have the overall to do list. You know the one. The things that ‘absolutely have to get done.’ Urgent and important things such as renew the car insurance, check out what that scraping noise is when I press the brakes and drop my teenage son to his endless social engagements.

I also have a ‘Things that need done in the house’ list. This list has around 30 to-dos, yet I never seem to get beyond the first 4 of laundry, hoover, mop and clean bathroom. I have a To Do list for my pets, I have a To Do list for my teenager that is never ending, and I have a family To Do list which has been elevated in status since my mum had a fall. Oh, and work. I have a work To Do List. You know the thing that actually pays the bills.

Spotted what’s missing yet? Yes, the ‘me’ list. Where jostling for position beside meditate, start a regular yoga practice and do pelvic floor exercises is the never ending ‘to do’… lose weight.

I worked out yesterday that the losing weight ’to-do’ has

The Consequences of Obesity

Drastic changes in physical appearance, commonly followed by negative mental impact and lost confidence, is often associated with being overweight. Unfortunately, that’s not all that comes with neglecting to maintain a healthy weight for your body type – your risk for many diseases, conditions and other serious health problems heightens when you’re obese. This can negatively affect your everyday life, and can ultimately reduce overall wellness and longevity.

With more than one-third of the entire country reportedly being obese – according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – it’s critical that more people understand just how harmful carrying around excess body weight can be, and why it’s never too late to take back control of their well-being and follow healthier habits that lead them to live long, fulfilling lives, just as God intended for them.

Devastating Consequences of Obesity
The following conditions and diseases may impact your life if you are, or become, obese.

High blood pressure – Obesity may cause your body to resist insulin, the hormone that controls blood sugar.

High LDL cholesterol – Eating foods with excess saturated fats (meat and dairy products) raises bad cholesterol levels.

Type 2 diabetes – Because obesity can make the body resistant to insulin, you may develop Type 2 diabetes.

Coronary heart disease – High blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as diabetes, are all risk factors for coronary heart disease.

Stroke – Narrowed or clogged arteries caused by eating excess fats from meat and dairy products lead to

Tips for Healthy Skin as You Age

Skin naturally changes as you age. You lose fullness, gain lines and wrinkles and notice dryness more often – and it’s inevitable. What isn’t out of your control, however, is how you treat your skin throughout your lifetime. There are dozens of factors that influence the way your complexion changes over time, and many of those come from lifestyle choices you made as a teenager and young adult, and carried on to your everyday habits.

Beyond the natural wear and tear God expected to come of your skin, there are numerous ways to maintain healthy skin as you age and ensure overall wellness in your complexion. Here are a few tips:

1. Don’t Think Twice About Unhealthy Habits
If one thing’s for sure, it’s that smoking and drinking alcohol is detrimental to overall health. These two harmful habits are especially bad for the skin, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Drinking excess alcohol dehydrates the skin, while smoking causes wrinkles and an unnatural, yellow complexion. Consider this information more reason not to think twice about picking up these bad habits.

2. Prioritize Stress Management
Too much stress can cause an imbalance in your hormones, ultimately making your skin more sensitive and prone to acne flare ups and other conditions. By prioritizing stress management through Bible study, prayer, relaxation techniques and hobbies that keep you happy, you can reduce blemishes in your complexion.

3. Stay Hydrated
Whether you’re drinking lots of water or relying on your primarily raw, plant-based diet to keep

8 Reasons Why Diets Don’t Work For Everyone

Dieting, supplements, diet books and products are a multi-billion dollar industry. But does dieting work for everyone?

Have you tried a diet before? When we have new clients in our Wellness Coaching practice, our clients on average try three diets, plans, or trends prior to coming to see us for sustainable solutions. And they’re not alone! This is becoming increasingly more common with so much information on the internet, new trends, new diets, and new plans coming out weekly.

If this topic is interesting to you or a friend, be sure to share and read more about these 5 reasons why diets don’t work for everyone, why and how diets might work for some, and how to measure outcomes and results without traditional methods like the scale.

Have you thought about how many diets or plans you’ve tried in your lifetime — which ones were successful and sustainable for you?

Diets aren’t just tried by people who have a health condition or a condition that dictates weight-loss — diets don’t discriminate and they impact all walks of life. Despite the intention and purpose behind many diets being weight loss, most diets in the long-term actually lead to weight gain. There are many perspectives to look at when we chat about dieting.

What Is Dieting?

If we get technical about the word diet and take out any emotion related to it, it’s simply defined as the food and habits around food a person has. In our mainstream society, dieting has a

Should I Take Vitamin K with my Vitamin D Supplement?

Today you will find a blog article from our Director of Research, Michael Donaldson, PhD.  Please enjoy the wealth of experience and wisdom this article entails:

Michael Donaldson, PhD writes:

Nutrition science can be confusing, and as consumers we are constantly bombarded with messages from every side. There are so many bloggers and different angles on nutrition. And everyone is entitled to their own opinion and some are better than others at sounding authoritative. Who do you trust?

Some vitamin D supplements have now included vitamin K with it, like our own Hallelujah Diet Vitamin D3 / K2 supplement. The basic reason to combine D3 and K2 is that vitamin D increases the absorption of calcium and vitamin K2 tells the calcium where to go.

But other people have claimed that you should not combine vitamin D and K together. They say we don’t need to supplement vitamin K as nobody is deficient in vitamin K. They say that we get plenty in our diet. Also, our bodies make vitamin K for us. Vitamin K might be dangerous; it might cause hypercalcemia, leading to kidney stones. Vitamin K might make your blood thicker and make it coagulate in the wrong places, like in your arteries or brain. Who’s right?

At Hallelujah Acres we bring you health from a Biblical perspective. We believe that God created Adam and Eve and placed them in the Garden of Eden to tend and keep it. We were originally designed to thrive in a

Beware the Compare

Here, we discuss why “Comparison is the thief of joy and 4 easy steps to stop comparison for good. Beware the compare today!

Picture the scene: You have just completed a full week on the New You Total Food Replacement (TFR) plan. (Yas!) You drank the water; made the packs and you are about to jump on the scales for your weekly weigh in. Drum roll please…5lbs off in a week! How amazing! Excited, you log in to Secret Slimmers, The New You Plan’s customer support group, to share your fab news. Only as you are scrolling through, you see that another slimmer has lost 11lbs, and another has lost 9lbs and suddenly your 5lbs doesn’t seem quite so amazing anymore… STOP! You are about to fall into the compare and despair trap.

Most of us have fallen prey to the trappings of compare and despair conditioning at one time or another. In our social media world, triggers can pop up at any moment of the day.

You open Facebook and learn that another person in your group of friends is getting married, when you haven’t been on a date in FOREVER, or you flick to Instagram and realise that an old school friend has just picked his new Land Rover while your 10 year old ‘run around’ has failed its MOT… again. You know that it’s not helpful to compare yourself to others, but you can’t look away. Deeper and deeper down the comparison rabbit hole you go until

3 Reasons to Invest in a Plant Based Diet

By following a plant-based diet, you’re consuming only the natural sustenance from the earth that God intended for you all along. The nourishment you receive from organic fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds is all your body needs to thrive, according to Genesis 1:29.

Genesis 1:29 “Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you.”

Inspired by this idea and God’s Original Diet, our founder Rev. George Malkmus developed the Hallelujah Diet in hopes that people would stay away from the Standard American Diet and fuel their bodies back to health.

God’s Original Diet consisted of natural sustenance grown from the earth.

“From the time God gave Adam that original 100 percent raw, plant-based diet in Genesis 1:29, until flood waters destroyed all plant life by the great flood 1,700 years later, there is not a single recorded instance of sickness and the patriarchs lived to an average age of 912 years old,” Rev. Malkmus wrote in his book “God’s Original Diet.”

Removing processed treats, dairy products and meats from your diet will benefit your body tremendously. Here are three reasons to invest in a plant-based diet:

1. It Strengthens the Immune System
Did you know that refined sugars can completely break down the immune system? That means every time you consume an unhealthy sweet treat, you’re fueling the compromise of your

Desi Pumpkin Bean Burger | Healthy Ethnic Recipes

Just in time for Fall, these easy and healthy Desi Pumpkin Bean Burgers are an excellent alternative to store bought vegan burgers. Kidney beans, pumpkin and oats infused with curry powder and cumin, to create a healthy ethnic recipe – that’ll knock your socks off! Served on a bed of alfalfa microgreens and topped with creamy guacamole. Just tuck in!

It’s not only during the Summer season, that our family craves burgers. And of course, being a plant-focused family – we’re always on the hunt for healthy and tasty recipe ideas.

Fair to say, these motivations fuel my activities in the Desi~licious test kitchen, which I’d say, in most cases, lead to creations  with an Eastern and Western fusion.

This Desi Pumpkin Bean Burger is the ultimate of healthy eating – with buckets loads of flavor. Plus, it’s satisfying!

This is one of those recipes where you think, that looks too complicated! Honestly, that simply isn’t true.  It’s a matter of throwing everything in, making a patty and “Bob’s your uncle!” These bean burgers are easy to pull off, 100% vegan, and can also be served gluten free (minus the wheat buns!).

I’d say, they’re the perfect choice for meatless Mondays.

Is A Vegan Burger Healthy?

Now that really depends on a whole host of factors…

If you’re considering a processed vegan burger, it’s worthwhile to check the ingredients list, and the nutrition facts label. You want to look for a short ingredient list – with wholesome

9 Fermented Foods for Better Digestive Health and Immunity

Fermented foods have been enjoying some well-deserved time in the spotlight lately.

Not only are these probiotic-packed superfoods brimming with beneficial bacteria, but they’re also versatile and full of flavor. Making a conscious effort to include just a few servings in your diet each week can have a huge impact on gut health, weight management, blood sugar levels, and more.

Ready to learn more? Keep reading for a complete fermented foods list, plus some simple yet delicious ways to add them to your diet.

What Are Fermented Foods?

Fermentation is a process in which microorganisms like bacteria and yeast break down molecules such as sugar. This process triggers a number of different chemical changes. Most notably, however, it extends the shelf-life of the final product and increases the number of beneficial bacteria in your food.

“Bacteria” and “food” aren’t two words you would ever really expect–or want–to hear in the same sentence, but this type of bacteria is actually pretty important to your overall health. Also known as probiotics, these healthy strains of bacteria live in your digestive tract and promote everything from digestive health to immune function and beyond (1).

Taking a probiotic is one easy way to increase your intake of gut-healthy bacteria. However, you don’t need to spend lots of money on pricey products to get more probiotics in your diet. In fact, incorporating a few of the top fermented foods into your weekly meal plan can be just as effective, and may even offer other health

Baba Ganoush

This perfectly creamy Baba Ganoush is sure to be the next big thing in your home-cooking repertoire.

I was recently in my favorite area of the grocery store, the produce section, looking for inspiration for batch cooking for the week when eggplant caught my eye. Particularly because we don’t cook with eggplant often at home unless it’s in the colder months in a stew, but why not revisit a year-round favorite dip, Baba Ganoush?

The flavor of eggplant alone is worth bringing it home more often from the grocery store, in addition, the health benefits and the versatility of eggplant are a bonus. Try this simple Baba Ganoush recipe.

Baba Ganoush Classic revisited

You may have noticed, this is not the first time we have featured Baba Ganoush on Nutrition Stripped.

Several years ago McKel posted a recipe for this wonderful and versatile Lebanese dish. But after we made a batch recently in our kitchen, we knew it was time to pay tribute to this delicious recipe and give it a well-deserved spotlight once more with a few updates.

How to serve Baba Ganoush

If you have never made Baba Ganoush before, you are in for a surprise! It’s both simple to make and versatile to add to any dish for added flavor and a creamy texture.

The flavors are deep and complex and packed with nutrients. Roasting the eggplant at a high temperature creates a wonderfully subtle smokey flavor, and mint and tahini add a perfect nutty freshness to

Why is Diet More Important Than Exercise?

Making healthy lifestyle choices is critical to treating your body right, ultimately warding off disease and promoting longevity. Certain habits, such as eating well and exercising, can also help you look and feel you best. One is more crucial than the other, however, and acts as the ultimate foundation to overall wellness: following a healthy diet. As important as exercise is for losing weight, boosting your immune system and improving your energy by following a primarily raw, plant-based diet gives your body the fuel it needs to get through a workout, while also offering more weight-loss benefits than exercise.

Exercise vs. Healthy Eating
While running on the treadmill to burn those excess calories you devoured for dinner seems like the easy way out, starting with smarter eating habits and cutting calories initially ends in better results. An analysis of 700+ weight-loss studies found the best short-term results came when participants chose to eat well, according to Shawn M. Talbott, Ph.D, nutritional biochemist.

“On average, people who dieted without exercising for 15 weeks lost 23 pounds; the exercisers lost only six over about 21 weeks. It’s much easier to cut calories than to burn them off,” he told The Huffington Post.

Following a healthy diet builds the foundation for effective exercise.

Think about it this way: Have you ever considered how much energy you use per day while exercising? According to Dr. Mercola, working out only accounts for 10 to 30 percent of the energy your body uses in any given

How Can Poor Oral Health Impact Your Body?

You know the common results of neglecting to follow a healthy oral care regimen – bad breath, potential cavities and irritated gums are problems that are likely to surface. Unfortunately, however, there are even greater risks. Many people don’t realize just how important it is to take care of your mouth, as it’s the door to the rest of the body. Without a proper oral care routine, your immune system is put in jeopardy, which may lead to a number of chronic conditions in the future.

To open your eyes even wider, here are a few of the serious consequences that may develop if you don’t take care of your teeth:

Cardiovascular Disease
According to the Cleveland Clinic, certain studies have found that harmful bacteria in the mouth that lead to the development of periodontal disease can also move into the bloodstream. This bacteria then cause a spike in C-reactive protein, which can inflame blood vessels and increase one’s risk for experiencing a stroke or developing heart disease.

Pregnancy Complications
Did you know that bad oral health can lead to complications during pregnancy? According to research conducted by the Society for General Microbiology, bad bacteria found in the mother’s mouth can move into the bloodstream and transmit to the amniotic fluid of the unborn child. This can lead to premature delivery, premature contraction, an infection to the baby or low birth weight for the baby.

Pregnancy complications may occur without taking proper care of your oral cavity.

Endocarditis
